A colourful and detailed bespoke kitchen.
We wanted to design something that added real character to this house that overlooks Lake Windermere in the Lake District. The stand out design feature in this kitchen is the teal Aga that is set into the island so that whoever is cooking can enjoy the view of the lake out of the French doors. There is a combination of materials and colours in this kitchen which all complement one another spectacularly. All of the solid dovetailed drawer boxes show the cabinet makers craft within the kitchen. There are lovely features like the round open shelving on the end of the units against the wall to house pieces for the home. Wherever we have been able to, we have framed the kitchen in oak. Oak kickboards, oak cornicing, oak handles, oak interiors, and oak racking on the front side of the kitchen by the lake.
The client’s brief was to design a kitchen that had a youthful presence as well as connection to the outside area of outstanding natural beauty. We decided on the bright teal colour and managed to rein in the bright colour with the use of a pale green in the island, whilst the natural tones of the oak connect to the outdoors.
There are many practical solutions in this kitchen. Oak racking is there to display Le Creuset dishes and the like. There are two cleverly handmade drawers either side of the Aga for condiment bottles, chopping boards and spice jars.
The corner cupboard is angular to make the most of the kitchen space and are filled with further storage. There is up and down lighting to give mood in the evening and the beaten cooper sink, taps and Aga tops finish the whole kitchen off in style.
